BITB spoke with Dr. Fine about her passion for dermatology and her advice on choosing the best procedures for early signs of aging.
1. Tell us your story. How did you select the field of dermatology?
I knew I wanted to become a doctor for as long as I can remember. I went into medical school with an open mind and not knowing what I would choose to pursue. Dermatology was so appealing to me for so many reasons. It is a highly visual field and encompasses and is intertwined with so many other areas of medicine which I love, such as allergy, immunology and even psychiatry. There is so much variety to what we do! It keeps me on my toes, is always challenging and is so rewarding to help people look and feel better in their skin.
2. For someone just starting to think about injectables and lasers, what is your best advice as to how to choose the right procedures?
People always ask me, “when is the right time to start?” or “what is the right age?” There is no right or wrong answer! My best advice is to look in the mirror and ask yourself what it is that bothers YOU the most. For one person, it may be the lines on their forehead or between the lines between their brows. For others, it could be small lips, flattening of the cheeks or sunspots – the list goes on! People often get overwhelmed because we have so many options when it comes to cosmetic treatments.
My best advice is to seek out consultation or treatment at the first signs of aging because prevention is key! A small amount of filler, neuromodulator or a single laser treatment can make a huge difference when treating the earliest signs of aging. Also, regular maintenance is key and can truly change the way your skin ages. Little tweaks early and often will pay off huge in the long-run and give you the most natural-looking result.
3. What is in your makeup bag and bathroom shelf?
I like to keep things simple and not use too many different products, but be sure I’m using the highest quality ingredients. I use SkinBetter Science AlphaRet Overnight Cream at night and Hydration Boosting Daily Face Cream in the morning. I’m currently washing with La Roche-Posay Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cleanser.
