There are some beauty brands that have stood the test of time.
Estée Lauder will turn 60 years old in 2016; the iconic Chanel brand was started in 1909 and is now in its 106th year. Lancôme just celebrated its 80th anniversary, marking eight decades of innovation with great bravura.
To mark that milestone, Lancôme released an exclusive video that marks a tribute to French elegance, and talks about the vision of Armand Petitjean who started the company with the intent to “beautify women and increase their happiness.” The name “Lancôme” was inspired by the ruins of a French castle, and everything about the brand is reflective of the country’s style and grace.
The video, which presents well-known beauty items like a rose or a bottle of fragrance, talks about their symbolism and Petitjean’s vision. Therefore, a fragrance is not “just a fragrance; it is a crystal smile that proclaims life is beautiful.”
The brand has worked with several celebrities over the years, and the familiar faces of Lancôme include Isabella Rossellini, Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet and most recently, Lupita Nyong’o. Since its inception as a fragrance house, when it launched five fragrances at the World’s Fair in Brussels, Lancôme has introduced skincare and makeup as well, and in fact the brand’s makeup line and products like Juicy Tubes have skyrocketed in awareness and popularity.
Its iconic makeup product may well be the mascara “Hypnôse” which touted “custom-wear volume” and promises intense, black pigments and long lashes. Its “Hypnôse Star” introduced in 2012, tapped into the luscious curves of Betty Boop and supermodel Daria Werbowy.
