We are equal opportunity beauty buffs who will try products from the drug store or the poshest department stores, but could we really unearth beauty in the diaper bag?  Believe it.  Many of the products we use to keep our kids healthy and happy are good for mamas too.  If you aspire to baby smoothness then it makes good sense to dip into skincare formulated for delicate little faces and bodies.  Here we review a few of our favorites.

Sun Protection – California Baby No Fragrance SPF 30+ Sunscreen is popular for kids with sensitive skin who don’t tolerate fragrances.  Moms appreciate the water-resistant formula and slather it on themselves; the non-greasy formula works great under makeup.  Parents seeking an ultrasafe option for their babies and themselves can reach for Badger Baby Sunscreen SPF 30+, which earned top marks from the Environmental Working Group.  Sunscreen sticks are great, but nothing beats the convenience factor of Doctor T’s Supergoop SPF 30+ Swipes, premoistened wipes for face and body.

Lip Care – Moms and their kids share countless kisses, so why not share great lip balms?  Erbaviva Organic Baby Lip & Cheek Balm with antioxidant rosemary extract, soothing chamomile, shea butter, lavender and calendula is a hit among kids and moms.  Perennial favorite Kiehl’s offers a Baby Lip Balm formulated with avocado oil, favored by moms for the subtle gloss it delivers.

Moisturizers – At home and out in the world, moms like to keep their kids’ new skin well moisturized, and frequent hand washing and running around outside leaves mothers in need of a hydrating moisturizer.  Aveeno Baby Calming Comfort Lotion is a colloidal oatmeal formula scented with vanilla and lavender.  Moms love the effect, the fragrance and the under $5 price tag.  Aquaphor is an old standby that works as well on diaper rash as it does on mama’s dry elbows and knees.  Long before I became a mom, a child-free beauty editor friend introduced me to Mustela Bebe Hydra-Stick.  It is gentle, hypoallergenic and smells like heaven.

Soaps and Cleansers – Kids are as adorable as they are messy, so good soaps and cleansers are essential.  Moms have been known to sneak off with Rainbow Organics Bubble Bath For Kids, made with moisturizing aloe vera and vitamin E.  Method’s Mickey Mouse hand wash is loved by kids who have an easier time washing with the foamy stuff, and by moms who can’t get enough of the lemonade scent.   Bamford Organic Chamomile Baby Soap is made with a sleepy-making blend of chamomile, lavender, geranium and tea tree essential oils.  While baby wipes are great for cleaning tushies, it always seems wrong to swipe one across a child’s face, which is why we love Mustela Facial Cleansing Cloths for our kids and ourselves.

There is a special place in the mama/baby beauty hall of fame for Herban Essentials Lavender Towelettes. The individually wrapped towelettes are great for disinfecting scrapes, repelling bugs and soothing existing insect bites, clearing up blemishes, removing makeup and preventing diaper rash.  They can do anything, making every mom a MacGyver.

With such fabulous options for children’s sun protection, skincare and cleansers, moms can lighten their loads by carrying quality products good enough for discriminating grownups and delicate kids.  Beautiful, baby!
