Kathy Miller-Kramer – Beauty Editor and Entrepreneur

Posted by 02.28.10

Meet the Invisibelt Inventor

Kathy Miller-Kramer spent over 15 years in the beauty industry before launching her own entrepreneurial venture with Invisibelt. A self-described beauty junkie (inherited from her mother), Kathy recognizes that when it comes to looking and feeling their best, women have less time, want more and expect immediate results. She previously worked for Frederic Fekkai, followed by a long line of prestigious beauty editorial posts at women’s glossies including McCall’s, Rosie, and later Lifetime Magazine, where she served as beauty director. Kathy has also written for Shape, Cosmopolitan, Life & Style, Health, Perfumania.com, Vital Juice Daily, Ulta.com, Cetaphil.com and leading cosmetic companies. Two years ago she launched Invisibelt, and has already appeared on QVC a dozen times, and sold the belt to over 600 stores and to thousands more consumers online. To our friends outside the States, stay tuned: she has also signed a Canadian distributor and is in current talks with other international distributors.

What led you to create invisibelt?

I have a small waist and slightly larger hips, so my pants were always a bit too big in the waist. I hated getting alterations – they were pricey, time consuming and never looked right. I constantly needed a belt, but they were so bulky and created a big bulge. I could never wear a fitted, longer top. Yet, if I skipped the belt, I ended up tugging and pulling up my pants all day. I had to take matters into my own hands and create a flat belt that was about function, not fashion.

How can the Invisibelt benefit the active woman?

The Invisibelt is great for those “on the go.” For the fitness focused women, it’s comfortable and provides an instant slimming effect. Plus, if you lose an inch or two, it’s not a big deal. I grew up needing belts, and for some reason was always in between the belt holes. My dad always had to go down to the basement and punch a new hole for me. What’s great about the Invisibelt is that it adjusts like a bra, so you can make it the tiniest bit smaller (or larger) if necessary.

Who was Invisibelt designed for?

Any girl or woman who wants to look and feel confident when dressed. Not only does this flat, adjustable belt (fits size 0-14) eliminate belt buckle bulge, it addresses embarrassing back gap and the need to pull up pants and jeans that stretch. It’s also a great tool when you are losing weight and are in between sizes. The Invisibelt is a “fashion fix-it” that every woman should have in her wardrobe. It’s only $20 and really can prolong the life of your pants. You won’t have to wash or dry clean pants that stretch out because the invisibelt will keep them in place. Also, if you loose a few pounds, you can avoid the tailor or even buying new pants.

What’s the best way to wear Invisibelt?

The best was to use it is to adjust it before it putting through belt loops. Once you find the length that works, slide it through loops and snap the puzzle-like, flat clasp into place. To see the flattest results, the belt should be very snug.

Where can we find it?

The Invisibelt is available in stores, catalogs and online in Naked (clear), Noir (black) and other colors and styles. I love our new Glamour Collection, which has either a silver or gold lace pattern. This collection was inspired by sexy lingerie (hey, sometimes you wear an alluring bra that no one sees and you feel pretty good about yourself, right?). Plus, if your top creeps up, a decorative belt peeks out. We also have a line of belts for girls ages 5 to15. I refer to these as our FUNctional belts.  There are four trendy styles (think peace signs and neon pink) that also lie flat if needed (the older girls like the belts for their skinny jeans and fitted tops). In the spring we have a maternity belt coming out. More details on that to come…

Have you always been interested in fashion?

I won “best dressed’ in ninth grade and never looked back. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE fashion, accessories and of course, beauty. I was a beauty editor for 15 years.

Have you amassed a celebrity following yet?

I have given the Invisibelt to Beyonce, Heather Graham, Kim Kardashian and Kelly Roland (don’t know if they have worn it, but they have it).

What are your go to beauty items? What can’t you live without?

Where do I begin? I’m such a beauty junkie! Laura Mercier Primer + Laura Mercier Foundation + the Beauty Blender makeup sponge = Flawless skin. Chanel Glossimer #46 is a universally wearable gloss for all skin tones, Dior DiorShow black mascara just needs one swipe for lush lashes. Prevage is the ultimate anti-ager. Peter Thomas Roth Max Complexion Pads keep skin glowing. I could go on, but these are just a few of my must-haves.

Are you a mom?

I have a 5 and a half year old daughter, Liv.

What’s your favourite bag?

I’m not a fan of having the “bag of the moment.” I buy what I like. My most recent purchase was a big Givenchy woven leather tote. My life fits in it!
