If you haven’t been using a toner, what are you waiting for? Toner helps cleanse and refine pores, rebalances your skin’s pH, delivers specific skincare benefits and leaves your skin glowing. Toners can be spritzed on, applied to a cotton pad and smoothed over your face and neck, or gently pressed into freshly cleansed skin with your hands.
Whether you’re looking for antioxidant benefits, to boost your skin’s radiance, add moisture to a dull-looking or dry complexion, soothe or reduce redness, or a combo of any of these or other perks instead, here’s a selection of BITB-approved toners that are worth checking out:
Caudalie Beauty Elixir ($49) is the toner I’ve been using forever and will never give it up! I love it for its uplifting scent, so much so that sometimes I take a moment just to breathe in its aromatherapeutic benefits, but I also use it to “wake up” and soothe my skin multiple times throughout the day. Its formula includes rosemary, mint, rose essential oil as well as other skin-loving botanicals and if you’re like me, you’ll want to use it immediately after cleansing before applying any other skincare products, after applying your foundation but before applying your powder products to help “set” your makeup, and throughout the day, whenever you and your skin need a little lift.
Murad Essential-C Toner ($28) is a great way to protect your skin from the environment’s elements. It is rich in Vitamins C and E, as well as Coneflower Extract so it works to strengthen your skin and also protects you from free radical damage. It is formulated with Licorice Root Extracts to brighten, Rice Amino Acids to reinforce your skin’s ability to retain moisture, and Orange Fruit Extract to rejuvenate.
Clarins Toning Lotion with Camomile ($26) will soothe, purify, soften and protect normal, combination, dry and sensitive skin types. This alcohol-free blend is rich in chamomile, linden and Vitamins A, B, and E, specifically for their skin-soothing, anti-inflammatory, and protective properties.
SK-II Facial Treatment Essence ($165) moisturizes and supports cell renewal thanks to Pitera, a nutrient rich organic compound touted for its ability to jump start cellular repair, and a special blend of vitamins, amino acids, minerals and organic acids that also help to reveal brighter more hydrated, and less lined skin. To use, sprinkle some in the palms of your hands and gently press into your skin.
Ole Henriksen Balancing Force Oil Control Toner ($26) can be used to help treat oily skin as well as to treat present breakouts and prevent future ones from occurring. The formula features Salicylic, Glycolic and Lactic Acids to loosen and lift away pore clogging, acne-causing dead skin cells, and it is also made with active antiseptic botanicals such as green tea, eucalyptus, algae and Irish moss extracts to absorb excess oil and refine pores.
NOTE: Caudalie Beauty Elixir was sent complimentary for review. The Murad, Clarins, SK-II and Ole Henriksen toners were tested in store. Opinions are my own.
