HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
A glass of red wine a day can keep the doctor away and we can thank resveratrol—a potent antioxidant extracted from grape skins—for that. In fact, resveratrol is believed to play a key factor in the French Paradox (high-fat diet, relatively little heart disease). Beauty companies too are touting the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits of resveratrol and incorporating it into skincare and even makeup. Resveratrol—good for you inside and out.
Leave it to Caudalíe, the vine-based skincare brand from France, to fully research the benefits of a vine-related ingredient. The company recently released its fourth anti-aging patent, Resveratrol-Oleyl, which is featured in the Vinexpert range of products. This new generation of resveratrol, derived from grapevine stalks, stimulates collagen fiber production and increases the skin’s epidermal thickness while encouraging produce collagen and elastin production. Caudalíe Vinexpert Firming Serum ($88) has the range’s highest Resveratrol-Oleyl concentration, and works to fill in areas most subject to aging such as the cheekbones, facial contours, neck, and décolleté. This oil-free serum works deep down to smooth facial features while restoring volume to the face. Vinexpert also includes Eye and Lip Serum ($75) and Night Infusion Cream ($75).
Looking for a splurge in anti-aging? Look no further than the La Prairie Anti-Aging Collection. The Anti-Aging Day Cream with SPF 30 ($215) and the Anti-Aging Night Cream ($215) work together to help prevent, repair, maintain, and rehabilitate your skin at any age. The day cream contains La Prairie’s Cellular Complex as well as UVA and UVB sun protection to help shield skin from early wrinkling and unwanted sunspots. The cream also stimulates natural collagen production to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as seal in moisture. Antioxidant resveratrol plays a key part to protect the skin from free radicals. The night cream increases skin repair while protecting it against protein damage. Just like the day counterpart, this night cream is packed with powerful antioxidants to strengthen skin activity and is also said to reduce and help prevent fine lines and wrinkles while it firms.
Resveratrol even shows up in peels. Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel ($78 for 30 pads) is a daily anti-aging face peel, which is formulated with over 40 ingredients—five alpha and beta hydroxyl acids—with retinol, resveratrol, and antioxidant vitamins. This peel not only works to diminish the appearance of wrinkles, it also alleviates complexion problems, balances and tones oily skin, calms redness, and soothes irritation. In an independent study, 100% of women tested reported that after using these pads for two weeks, they saw a marked improvement in skin radiance and glow, skin texture and tone, and 95% would recommend it to others.
If you’re looking for a resveratrol-loaded item to do double duty, check out BITE Define and Refine Lip Set ($30), a lip trio that delivers smooth, long-lasting color, and moisturizing coverage. It is formulated with organic fruit butters that soften and nourish lips and resveratrol, which is packed with antioxidants to fight free radicals. This lip set of lip shine, pencil, and crème lipstick conditions while providing great color.
Wine—and grapes—don’t just provide resveratrol for us. Grape seeds and grape seed oil also have a huge health benefit and cosmetic companies are noticing. A great source of essential fatty acids and vitamin E, grape seed oil offers anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-histamine, and anti-aging benefits, making it essential for treating a variety of beauty and health issues, both minor and severe. Studies suggest that grape seed oil and its extract can help with dermatitis, acne, wrinkles, dry and itchy skin, age spots, sunburn, chapped lips, stretch marks, as well as dandruff and hair loss.
For on-the-go moisture, we love L’Occitaine’s range of Hand Creams ($10). In 12 scents, from tropical floral hibiscus to the tried and true vanilla, these shea butter enriched super creamy balms seep into your skin quickly to moisturize, protect, and replenish cracked and dehydrated hands. Formulated with 20% shea butter and honey, almond, coconut, and grape seed oils, a little dab truly goes a long way.
Josie Maran Argan Cleansing Oil ($32) is ideal for anyone looking for a gentle and natural cleanser that removes makeup and skin impurities while giving your skin the hydration it needs. Grape seed, almond, and safflower seed oils clean the skin’s upper layers while moisturizing.
Although we rarely mention a brand twice in one write up, we couldn’t help but also include Caudalíe Vinopure Purifying Mask ($40), a clay mask that clears skin impurities, tightens the appearance of pores, and sloughs off dead skin cells. Formulated with a high concentration of plant ingredients and grape seed oil, this mask is made of two types of clay that work together to clean without drying out your skin.
Grape seed oil is also great for your hair. An anti-aging mask that strengthens and creates volume, Phyto Phytodensium Mask ($38) is created with grape seed and black current seed oils as well as omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. These natural ingredients combine to naturally soften and regenerate dull and tired hair. After using this hair mask, your hair should boast great shine and enhanced control.
