No matter how many indoor cycling or barre classes you take through ClassPass, you can still pinch more than an inch in more than one place. Liposuction or tummy tuck are out of the question because surgery is just not your thing and you can’t afford the downtime anyway.
Sound about right? If so, the latest entry in the non-invasive fat reduction or body slimming category – Cynosure’s SculpSure™ –may be exactly what you need to perfect your figure.
SculpSure is the only US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-cleared hyperthermic laser treatment for non-invasive fat reduction. Other entries in this category target unwanted fat with radiofrequency energy, ultrasound and/or fat freezing.
SculpSure’s laser energy heats the fat cells and surrounding tissues, agitating the fat. Your body naturally removes the fat cells and leaves the treated area flat, firm, and taut. In addition, the heating energy stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, two building blocks for youthful, healthy skin, explains Bruce Katz, MD, is Clinical Professor of Dermatology at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Director of the Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Clinic at Mount Sinai Medical Center, and Director of the Juva Skin & Laser Center in New York. Katz conducted the FDA trials that led to the device’s approval.
“It is similar to some other technologies on the market in terms of results but has its share of advantages as well,” he says.
The new device looks like an Octopus, he says. “It has four applicators so we can treat four parts of the body at one time,” Katz says. “Other devices have one applicator so only one area can be treated at a time.” Target areas may include abdomen, flanks, back, outer thighs, knee, chin … you name it. “And we can do it in half the time as other technologies,” Katz says. “It takes 25 minutes to treat four areas.”
SculpSure is also one and done. “You will see a modest improvement of about 2 or 3 centimeters,” he says. The reduction occurs gradually over four to six weeks. Another plus: “It doesn’t really hurt. It just feels warm and tender at the treated area,” he says. “You can go right back to work.”
SculpSure can be safely combined with other modalities to tighten or tone the skin. The cost of treatment is not yet known, Katz says.
