It’s National Cocoa Day today, December 13, and time to celebrate the yummy cold weather treat’s beauty benefits as well as soul warming flavor. Derived from the cocoa bean, cocoa butter is rich in antioxidants and moisturizing benefits, and has been used for years to prevent stretch marks.

While the verdict is still out on its effectiveness in fighting stretch marks, cocoa butter is supremely moisturizing and soothing, especially on winter chapped lips and skin. Here are a few new and classic cocoa products to help keep your skin soft and hydrated.

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil for the Face (ARV $12.99): The granddaddy of all cocoa butter lines, Palmer’s has just launched this face oil that combines cocoa butter with a blend of 10 oils, retinol, and vitamin C to help fight the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The cocoa butter and oils smooth wrinkles, while the retinol and vitamin C improve dark spots and uneven skin tone. The brand’s proprietary Cetesomate Complex helps deliver valuable nutrients past the skin’s outer layers to the epidermis.

Alba Botanica Hawaiian Deep Conditioning Minute Mask in Cocoa Butter (ARV $8.99): A 100% vegetarian line, Alba Botanica makes products for face, body, hair, lip, and sun. This new mask provides a perfect touch of TLC for dry, damaged hair. The formula features cocoa butter, argan oil, and plant-sourced keratin to create a protective barrier around each hair strand so your locks will be soft, smooth, and utterly manageable.

Burt’s Bees Richly Replenishing Cocoa & Cupuacu Butters Body Lotion (ARV $10): Butters from cupuacu, a tropical rain forest cousin of cocoa, and cocoa provide intense moisturization in this lotion that also contains sunflower and olive oil. Non-greasy and quick absorbing, this lotion has been clinically tested and proven to hydrate for 24 hours. Wonderful for dry, winterized skin.

Boots Extracts Body Wash, Cocoa Butter (ARV $6.99): Boots uses sustainable sourced and community traded organic cocoa butter from the Dominican Republic. This wash cleanses, conditions, and moisturizes to leave skin soft, smooth, and free of dirt and debris. It’s especially helpful to counteract the drying effects of hot water showers in the winter.

Eve Lom Cleanser (ARV $50): Vogue loves this multi award-winning cleanser from the London-based facialist. It’s practically a cult classic, thanks to its combo of cocoa butter and four essential oils. Massage it into the skin with the provided muslin cloth for an at-home treatment that decongests, cleans, and softens the skin, without drying or stripping natural oils. Just possibly the best facial cleanser ever, and it is formulated for all skin types!
