Going sans makeup isn’t really my thing so when I was asked if I’d like to participate in the no-makeup selfie challenge, I thought Hell No!!!
But, then I was told I’d first experience a series of HydraFacial MD® treatments to whip my skin into shape and I was glad I held my tongue and said Yes instead. I thought the worst that could happen is my skin wouldn’t be helped and I’d have to show the world a very unflattering photo of me…I could live with that. Lucky for me, I didn’t have to!
I’d heard about the HydraFacialMD and needed to see if it would work miracles on my complexion the way I’d heard it could. My skin had been more reactive lately with breakouts, blotchiness and redness and a reboot was just what I needed. I confirmed my appointment with Nicole Deaver, Licensed Medical Aesthetician at The Dermatology & Plastic Surgery Group in New York City, and she explained the details to me:
- It’s one of the newest facial devices that combines a deep cleanse exfoliation, gentle extractions and extreme hydration in a 30 minute non-invasive treatment for instant results with no downtime or irritation.
- It can be customized. The light peel part is offered in a variety of strengths that will be chosen by your aesthetician or dermatologist based on your skin type and current skin condition. You can also add on additional serums like the Dermabuilder for immediate tightening that will last for days, the Britenol serum to help with hyper pigmentation and different LED light therapies to address other skin concerns.
- It can be performed on the face, neck, décolletage and back. It’s appropriate for all ages, skin types and many skin conditions.
THE TREATMENT: I signed up for a series of 3 treatments, spaced about 2 weeks apart. I filled out personal paperwork including info about my skincare routine and habits. Nicole explained how it works–basically, the machine utilizes a Vortex-Fusion® serum delivery system to simultaneously cleanse, exfoliate, remove impurities and dead skin cells while also replenishing vital nutrients including Antioxidants, Peptides and Hyaluronic Acid–and went to work on my skin.
I really did notice a big difference in my skin after the very first one. My complexion looked more even-toned and radiant. So much so, that I chose to avoid foundation completely for the next few days because I’m smart enough to know you don’t cover up glowing skin. That being said, I did apply a bit of concealer on under eye circles and a lingering blemish or two and I stuck to my usual minimal eye makeup.
Nicole increased the strength of my light Glycolic Acid peel for my second treatment and I had some expected redness that lingered after I left the office but it soon dissipated and I was once again left with glowing skin. The next day I noticed that some hyperpigmentation that I’d been covering for months was virtually gone and didn’t need concealer any more.
Before my 3rd treatment my skin was looking great and I knew I’d be able to take my no-makeup selfie without feeling too self-conscious. My skin was clear and radiant and I hadn’t had any reactions or redness. Nicole delivered my final treatment and once again my complexion behaved favorably. I was left with glowing skin that looked so good, I didn’t need or even want makeup.
HydraFacial MD® treatments range from $200-$325 depending on the size of the area being treated and the additional serum add-ons. I found the procedure to be completely pain-free, comfortable and even spa-like and love the fact that you see an immediate improvement after the very first treatment with continued improvement after each additional one.
Now that my complimentary treatments are over, I do plan on signing up for monthly maintenance sessions on my own. Nicole likens it to “brushing your teeth. The more you care for your skin, the better it will look and feel.” She also recommends regular cleansing, gentle exfoliation and the use of a broad spectrum sunscreen.
HydraFacial MD® home-use treatment products can help you maintain your in-office treatment results. I’ve been using their Antiox+ with Even Tone & Firming and the UV Smart Daily Sunscreen SPF40 and have been more than happy with the results. I know you will be too.
