DIAGNOSIS: PRODUCT BUILD UP SYNDROME

If your hair just doesn’t feel clean enough, even after double shampoos, you may be a victim of product buildup….a common affliction.  Dull, limp or oily hair requires special attention. You need to wash away all the residue from hard water, smoke, chlorine, salt, gels, mousses, serums without stripping essential moisture and oils.

Clarifying shampoos tend to be higher in pH since they are based on acetic acid, so they can also dry out your hair and scalp. You can use clarifying shampoos once a week to manage product buildup and prevent oily roots. Use sparingly on dry or color treated hair – once every two weeks is probably enough – or deep condition in between. Use cool to lukewarm water, lather and rinse very well to get out all the shampoo.

After a few shampoos with these remedies, your hair will feel clean, smell fresh and bouncy all over again.

Fekkai Apple Cider Clarifying Shampoo – Classic vinegar remedy to rid your hair of dirt, grease, oils, and that sticky feeling.

Terax Hair Care Latte Clarifying Shampoo –  Gentle cleansing with silk proteins

Neutrogena Anti Residue Shampoo – Another classic that will get the job done for a fraction of the price of premium brands

Pantene Pro-V Purity and Clarifying Shampoo – Turn dull hair into shine, shine, shine

Clairol Herbal Essences Clarifying Shampoo for Normal To Oily Hair –  Smells like rosemary and jasmine

Another tip to avoid greasy residue is to dilute your shampoo and conditioners with water to cut the thickness and consistency. Avoid using too heavy, creamy, thick formulas that are harder to rinse out, and shampoo only ONCE but rinse TWICE.
