Etats Poetiques in French means poetic state; in other words, moods that are poetic in nature. The Chanel Fall 2014 makeup collection is a chance to express color in a fiery way, as passionately as a French writer from the the days of the revolution.
Unlike many of Chanel’s previous collections, which liberally splashed color on fingertips, lips, and eyes, Etats Poetiques focuses color on the eyes. Eyeliner and a spectrum of pink eye shadow shades blended with flashes of purple, radiant yellow, and grey make the eyes impossible to miss. Here’s what it includes:
- The Écriture de Chanel Automatic Liquid Eyeliner: an automatic felt tip eyeliner that is versatile (two shades, $35 each)
- The Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow (six shadows, $29.50 each)
- Joues Contraste Powder Blush ($45)
- Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine (three shades all deeply pigmented, $35)
- Levres Scintillantes Glossimer ($29.50)
- Le Vernis ($27)
The Chanel spring 2014 collection toyed with pinks in various hues and also the idea of combining reds and pinks in a brilliant way. The Fall 2014 collection oozes sophistication and a very grown up look for the eyes, which is definitely one part glamorous, one part coy. If I were to choose few products from the collection, I’d go for Le Vernis in Orage (grey-blue), which will make any set of nails pop; and the redesigned eyeliner, which will make your eyes as alluring as Bardot’s (yes, you can do a cat eye with the felt tip).
Rouge Coco Shine is lipcolor worth splurging on, and at $35 a pop, you can afford to get all the three shades: Intime, Confident, and Viva.
The blush, a very pale pink called Innocence does not detract from the drama of the eyes and lips, and that’s a good thing. This is definitely the fall makeup collection we’re coveting this year.
