L’ORÉAL PARIS CLEAN ARTISTE WATERPROOF & LONG WEARING EYE MAKEUP REMOVER – Nothing is worse than unsuccessful late night eye makeup removal efforts, and waterproof and long wearing formulas are notoriously stubborn. Sure, I want my eye makeup to stay put if I’m feeling a little misty, working up a sweat or getting caught in the rain, but when I say ‘it’s time to go’ I need something that does all of the heavy lifting while sparing the delicate skin around my eyes. L’Oréal Paris has successfully addressed this concern with Clean Artiste Waterproof & Long Wearing Eye Makeup Remover. I was impressed by its ability to remove waterproof mascara with a gentle swipe of a cotton pad and surprised that a product so effective didn’t leave the oily residue that so many others do. Better still, Clean Artiste is safe for sensitive eyes.
FINAL VERDICT – BOB (BEAUTY ON A BUDGET) – At $7 for 4 oz., this little bottle is a great value. My only gripe is the bottle design, which can be a little challenging to open. The top is meant to prevent accidental leaks, which it surely will, so all is forgiven. Clean Artiste is my new go-to eye makeup remover.

Rimmel London – Glam’Eyes Lash Flirt Mascara – Rimmel, that lovely, reasonably-priced, UK brand of cosmetics, has launched a new line of mascaras designed to maximize the length, curl, thickness, and/or colour of your lashes. The Lash Flirt Mascara is no exception. This novel applicator combined with intensely dark pigments (I tried Black Noir), truly gives lashes an extra jolt of colour and incredible length. And while not waterproof, the formulation does seem to last throughout the day.
The most interesting aspect of this mascara is the applicator. The brush is quite long, has bristles on four sides, and is entirely flexible, bending easily. This allows the mascara to build on top of itself as the brush twirls through the lashes, grooming as it goes. One or two coats are sufficient for extremely long, dark lashes. I must admit, though, it did take a couple of tries to finesse the application process; the brush is so flexible, only a bit of added pressure actually bends the tip in half. That was easily overcome with practice.
Final Verdict – BOB (Beauty on a Budget) - For anyone who wants dramatic, long, lovely lashes, this mascara is priced to please. (I paid $7.50.) Perfect for Beauty on a Budget!

Neosporin LIP HEALTH Overnight Renewal Therapy (White Petrolatum Lip Protectant) - I am a religious devotee of Carmex for chapped lips, but before bed, I hesitate to apply it only because it is so thick I know it will leave a bit of a sloppy residue on my pillow. This winter I was introduced to a new lip hydrator, which now sits on my bedside table and is the last cream I apply before I lay me down to sleep. I was accustomed to associate Neosporin with antibacterial products for cuts and scrapes, but given the brand’s commitment to skin protection, a chapped lip therapy isn’t a far reach. It is a pleasure to use because a small amount goes a long way. The formula comes in a small tub, but is minimally greasy, so it doesn’t require that extra step of getting up out of bed to wash my hands. Since I tend to use a different lip product for day and night, I can’t say for certain that one works better than the other, but the combination left me with nothing to complain about through what has proven to be an excessively cold, snowy New York winter. It’s such a light cream that I can continue to use it as needed even when the weather becomes a bit more favorable.
Final Verdict – BOB (Beauty on a Budget) – It’s $4.99 and a small dab with your finger will suffice. The smell and consistency is reminiscent of a higher end brand, which adds value to the proposition.
