CHARLES WORTHINGTON BIG HAIR UPLIFTING MOUSSE

Like most people when I hear the term “big hair” my thoughts go to the crazy 80s and shows like Dynasty where the size of your hair was only superseded by the size of your shoulder pads.  Big hair is generally bad hair in my book. But this Big Hair mousse, is anything but bad.

For starters, when the mousse comes out, it doesn’t grow exponetionally in size.  A small handful, remains a small handful, rather than growing to a mass the size of Nebraska. Application is simple and it spreads easily through my hair. The scent is a bit heavy, but non-offensive. This very inexpensive mousse performs miracles to my thin, very straight hair.  Simply blow drying my hair with a round brush after a application of this mousse, and your would think I have thick hair, and a lot of it. My hair holds its style without other styling products, doesn’t get full of static, and even looks decent the next day. Not bad for a product at this price point, in fact, I think it is well WORTH every penny you will pay for it.

FINAL VERDICT: BOB (Beauty on a Budget):Shine, hold, and movement. What more can you ask for? Available at Walgreens.   $5.99 for 8.1 oz

BB Little Shine by Bumble and Bumble - Let me begin by saying I am a huge fan of the Bumble and Bumble line. From the thickening shampoo and conditioner, to the hair prep tonic, styling lotion, styling cream, thickening spray, and the classic hair spray, I love it all.   These products do for my thin, straight hair exactly what they promise, and for that, I am a devoted fan. Unfortunately, I have found one product in the line that will not get a spot in the Bumble and Bumble section of my cabinet. The BB Little Shine product  promises to make your hair glimmer with a silky, soft, smooth, sexy texture. Who wouldn’t want that? The directions specifically say “a little goes a long way” and I adhered to that warning. The product delivered exactly what it said it would. My hair looked fabulous. The problem is the smell of the product as it goes on is so incredibly overbearing, I could never use this product again. I did give it twomore tries, both times with the same result. I admit I have a keen sense of smell, but I cannot see using this product again unless I managed to apply it outside with a stiff breeze blowing the smell away from me. Sorry, this product was a bust for me due to its very strong odor.

FINAL VERDICT: SYC (SAVE YOUR CASH) I remain a Bumble and Bumble devotee, but I would pass on this particular product.

Umberto Beverly Hills Controller Conditioning Spray – I am admittedly promiscuous when it comes to styling products, playing the field with any and every lotion and potion promising less frizz.  In the course of my quest for sleek, shiny hair, I have filled my bathroom cabinet and emptied my wallet hoping that the newest one is the answer to my prayers.  Umberto Beverly Hills Controller Conditioning Spray talks a good game, with package copy promising detangling, conditioning, shine, frizz and flyaway control, and protection from heat styling.

First impressions, the stuff smells delish and goes on easy.  I loved the spray application but had my doubts that the thin liquid could discipline my crazy hair.  Sadly, my misgivings were spot-on.  Better than nothing, it was still insufficient for letting my hair air dry and go wavy, falling short on shine and smoothing.  Unfortunately that was also the case when I used the spray before my flatiron.   Umberto came through on the detangling front, but I didn’t accomplish anything beyond what I could in the shower with a conventional conditioner.  I could see this working for women with thin hair that is easily weighed down, but I definitely need more.

FINAL VERDICT – SYC (SAVE YOUR CASH) – Skip this generalist spray and stick with the specialists; you’ll be happier with a great conditioner that works in concert with your shampoo and a serious product designed to protect your hair from big bad styling tools.
