CANDY COLORED LIP LUBE IN A TUBE

Count ‘em, eight nights of Hanukkah.  Tonight the menorah is fully illuminated, it’s the last night of latkes, and my last night blogging some of my favorite lip care products.   Tonight I’m thinking about those candy colored lip glosses that come in a tube.  These products are heavy on shine, provide sheer coverage with a wash of color and a little flavor for a look that’s pure sophistication with a little thrill for your inner girlie girl.

Without question, Lancome Juicy Tubes kick-started this trend in lip care.  Lancome releases new “flavors” and keeps us wanting more with great colors, non-sticky coverage and candy scents that are pure nostalgia.  The tube applicator is completely idiot-proof, the gloss isn’t too sticky and the look lasts for hours at a time.  Juicy tubes are typically $18 a pop, but I’m a sucker for the gift set that’s out now for the holidays at major department stores, eight travel sizes for $39.50, an $81 value.

L’Oréal Color Juice Sheer Juicy Lip Gloss makes no bones about borrowing inspiration from Juicy Tubes.  The color, texture and form factor are nearly identical.  The biggest difference is in the price tag, about $8.50 a tube.  These are great budget buys and make fantastic Hanukkah gifts or stocking stuffers for teens or tweens who are just developing an interest in makeup.

I put Yes To Carrots C Me Shine Lip Gloss in a class by itself.  The six available colors are fantastic, and this gloss feels amazing, thanks to vegetable extracts, vitamin E, coconut, jojoba and sunflower oils, shea butter and beeswax.  The peppermint scent is perfect for the holidays and year round, and the 95% organic formula is free of parabens, phthalates, phenols and petroleum.  This dark horse has emerged as my favorite of 2009’s Hanukkah lip-o-rama, and hello, they are only $6.50 each!  Love, love, love.
