BEAUTY STEPS OUT AT SAG AWARDS
The Screen Actors Guild Awards held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 drew a mix of classic and edgy beauty styles, especially in the hair and makeup department. But some trends—like media headlines—stood out. Here is a handful we loved:
A Pop of Sparkling Blue Eye Color
Laura Mercier Mega Moisturizer Crème SPF 15 in Normal/Combination Skin($50)
Actress Claire Danes, who was nominated for the best Female Actor in a Drama Series for Homeland, wore makeup created by artist Matin Maulawizada for Laura Mercier. Matin said that he was inspired by the actress’ Vionnet gown, which had a Roxy music feel; he gave the actress’ skin a beautiful moisturized base with Laura Mercier Mega Moisturizer Crème SPF 15 in Normal/Combination Skin ($50). Claire’s makeup highlights included cheek color in Rosebud and radiance baked powder in Highlight and cream eye liner in Cobalt. Mascara completed the look.
To get Danes’ eye makeup, Maulawizada applied Laura Mercier Crème Eye Liner in Cobalt ($22) to Danes’ lash line, then the Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Smoke followed by Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Mystical ($23) and Laura Mercier Satin Matte Eye Colour in Dark Spirit ($23) all over her eyelids. To accentuate her eyes, he dusted a thin layer of loose, blue glitter to Dane’s eyelids.

Lupita Nyong’O rocked blue eye makeup too, courtesy of Chanel’s makeup artist Nick Barose, who wanted something playful to match the intensity and “butterfly-like” quality of her dress. On the eyes, Barose used three colors, with an emphasis on the blue. “It’s important to pick one color that’s really the statement with a look like this,” he said. He used the blue from the Quadra Eye Shadow in Fascination from the inner corner of Lupita’s eyes to the center, and Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Amethyst from the outer corner towards the center; the Le Crayon Khôl Intense Eye Pencil in Pêche Cuivré, a shimmering yellow, was used in the center of Lupita’s eyes. Barose blended it into the other two colors with his fingers.

Anna Gunn, star of Breaking Bad, sported a signature BR/BA purse and gray painted nails, thanks to Duri Cosmetics Gin Greyhound polish ($6) and celebrity manicurist Carla Kay’s. Kay also used a double-duty base and top coat from the brand’s best-selling Rejuvacote 2 Nail Growth System ($14). Dark nails are not too much of a spring trend, but this shade complemented Gunn’s dress beautifully.
Old Hollywood Glamor

The old Hollywood glamor look translated into the hairdo as well, with Portia de Rossi stepping out in hair done in gorgeous waves reminiscent of Eve Marie-Saint in the movie North by Northwest. To get this look, Robert Vertica prepped her hair with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse for weightless volume, followed by Sassoon Combing Creme for glossiness. Then he created a side part and used a blow dryer and a two-inch boar bristle round brush for the curls.
