Barrington, IL-based plastic and reconstructive surgeon Renee Michelle Burke, MD, knows that the whole is often greater than the sum of its parts when it comes to facial rejuvenation and body contouring. She typically combines minimally invasive treatments with surgical ones to achieve the best possible results.
Burke received her MD from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit and completed her internship at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, which she followed with a residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn and two fellowships – one in oculoplastics and aesthetics, and another in craniofacial surgery.
Burke chatted with Beauty in The Bag about the blended approach to cosmetic surgery and her med spa.
Here’s what she had to say:
1. What is your signature procedure?
My signature procedure as a plastic surgeon is definitely breast-shaping surgery. Using the most current techniques, such as fat grafting, to help achieve balance and proportion in a beautiful female figure. A composite breast augmentation is a procedure I discovered while spending time in Paris with cosmetic surgeon Dr. Eric Auclair. In this procedure, a breast augmentation is combined with fat grafting in specific areas of the breast to provide the most beautifully shaped, natural-feeling breast possible. While we have non-surgical body contouring opportunities, like UltraShape, the only opportunity to improve breast proportion, appearance or shape, whether due to aging or as the result of prior surgeries, is through advanced techniques of augmentation, lift, reduction and fat grafting.
2. What are some of the biggest trends you are seeing in your practice?
The biggest trend in my plastic surgery practice is blending surgical and non-surgical means to achieve the very best, most natural-looking results. For example, UltraShape can be a refining, slimming treatment in conjunction with breast surgery to restore an aging figure, one where “mid-life” weight settles in the abdomen, and breasts lose shape and volume with age. Other combinations such as injectable fillers and Botox, along with skin resurfacing like a series of SkinPen or facial peels, can dramatically restore a more youthful version of you.
3. Tell us about the ReMed Spa experience?
