BITB WANTS TO KNOW – ARE YOU GELLIN’?

Posted by 11.24.12

Classics are great but they can get a little boring. Classics with a twist, on the other hand, make things a little more interesting. Beauty brands have taken notice by creating old standbys in gel form. Easy to apply—and to remove—gel formulas offer long-lasting performance. From gel manicures—perhaps old hat by now—to gel foundations, here are all the classics you want now, updated.

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion is a prime example. First launched when moisturizers were the only anti-aging product for dry skinned women of a certain age, DDML is a cult classic. But for thicker, oilier, darker skin types. they came up with a light weight, oil free version - Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel.

Brow Gel ($21) from go-to brow company, Anastasia, tames unruly eyebrows without leaving them stiff, flaky, or sticky. Created with botanical conditioners like chamomile and essential oils, this gel works perfectly on all hair colors. In 13 different shades from Black Ink to Cobalt Ink, Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner ($22) is the perfect solution to lining your eyes like a pro. The gel-based formula gives you the precision of liquid eyeliner but with more ease. The eyeliner glides on smoothly and accurately and because it’s a gel, you can wear it all day without worrying about it fading.

Lips too are jumping on the gel bandwagon. We love AmorePacific Moisture Bound Lip Treatment ($35), which replenishes and hydrates for up to eight hours. Antioxidant minerals and amino acids fight UV and free-radical damage while bamboo sap, green tea seed oil extract, and red ginseng, restore the moisture barrier and boost lip circulation, leaving your pout vibrant and kissable. A multi-vitamin lip gel that adds subtle color and sheer shine to lips, Bite Beauty Vitamin Gel ($18) moisturizes and imparts a high dose of multivitamins to your lips. Formulated with resveratrol, an antioxidant that offers age-repairing benefits, this long-lasting lip gel is available in five different shades.

Don’t leave your face out of the gel picture: DiorSkin Nude Natural Glow Crème-Gel Makeup SPF 20 ($49) is formulated with soft waxes that contain mineral powders in a compact form. Application is a cinch as the gel easily glides over skin, transforming into a powder to give a flawless, streak-free, silky smooth finish. We like that DiorSkin Nude—available in six shades—moisturizes, provides full coverage, and with continued use, promotes radiance. Another foundation we love is Cover FX Clearprep FX Matte Foundation Primer and Anti-Acne Treatment ($39). Reducing shine, fine lines, and pores, this treatment is long-lasting and easy to blend. Safe for any skin type, this lightweight gel helps prevent acne breakouts while healing blemishes.

In lieu of traditional cream or powder blushes, bronzers, or cheek stains try per-fekt Cheek Perfection Gel ($28). The brand’s “Smart Color Technology” assures a perfect color match for any skin tone and the gel leaves a hint of subtle, natural color to sculpt and highlight cheekbones. It’s easy to apply and we recommend using it without a brush or sponge. Available in three shades, there’s sure to be a color for you.

Much ink has already been dedicated to gel manicures but we couldn’t resist adding just one gel-based nail product here. Perfect Formula Gel Coat ($24) is a clear and protein-rich nail coating that does triple duty: it strengthens nails, locks in moisture, and protects against chipping due to every day wear and tear. The clear coating can be worn alone or layered over a go-to nail color. Rich in keratin, the formula hardens and strengthens your natural nails so they can grow without breaking.

Old standbys are there for a reason: because we can always rely on them. But sometimes, we just want to add a little spice in our makeup products without straying too far away.
