The runways and celebrity award shows give us lots of insight into what the major beauty trends will be going forward. When it comes to hair, last year’s long, wavy, sexy hair isn’t going anywhere, but you can also expect to see lots of chic, polished styles and inspired updos.
Neil Cleminson, Australia’s top hairstylist and co-founder of bhave predicts “artsy hair with a touch of playfulness” including the wet look, braids, ponytails, buns and hair accessories, giving you lots of opportunities to mix things up.
SUPER SLEEK: This is hair that’s so shiny and sleek that it almost looks wet. Trending right now is wearing it long and straight with a center part, but you can switch up your part to find what suits you best.
Alterna Haircare Bamboo Smooth AM Anti-Frizz Daytime Smoothing Blowout Balm ($25) shortens styling time by 30 percent gives you 72-hour of frizz protection. This balm nourishes dry, dull strands and prevents frizz, protects the hair’s lipid layer, adds lightweight moisture and helps lock in color. Apply a little bit to clean, towel-dried hair before blow drying in sections and locking in your smooth style with your flat iron.
Paul Mitchell Pro Tools Express Ion Smooth ($135) will give you silky, healthy-looking, super-shiny hair. It heats up to 410°F in just 60 seconds, features Express Ion Complex for healthier hair, and is dual voltage so you can easily tote it on your worldwide travels.
BRAIDS: The best thing about braids is that they can be added to a variety of looks and they work for every hair type and hair length. Wear them alone or work them into your style when wearing your hair loose, pulled back or in an updo.
Moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray ($11) can be used to prep braids and updos by giving hair some grip and keep styles from slipping. It can also be used to give your style and effortlessly looking tousled texture and long-lasting hold. It blends Argan Oil to help improve elasticity, smoothness, and manageability, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein for added moisture and conditioning and Zeolite for added texture and to keep your hair smelling fresh.
HAIR ACCESSORIES: Whether your hair is short, long or somewhere in between, a little extra adornment will add a bit of polish making the hair accessory the finishing touch for any style.
Cara Vintage Hair Comb ($68), available in gold or silver tone, is made up of gorgeous freshwater pearls and shimmering Czech crystals.
ABS by Allen Schwartz Embellished Rabbit Fur Bobby Pins Set ($25) is a collection of 5 bobby pins, each distinctly different from each other. You can choose to wear them alone or mix and match for a variety of looks. Each is 2″ in length.
Dauphines of New York Front Row Darling Headband ($24) has three distinct strands in black leather, clear crystals, and a gunmetal link chain that combine to form an adjustable, multi-tasking headband that can be worn the classic way to hold your hair out of your face, incorporated into an updo, across your forehead, or even as a necklace. An instruction card is included so you can create a variety of looks.
PONYTAILS & BUNS: The pulled back ponytail, bun or topknot allow for endless options for you to choose from. They’re also a great option when you are short on time or when your hair is less than clean. Wear them high, low or mid-crown, with or without a part, and loose or pulled back tightly. Add braids, accessories or sans any embellishment.
Sephora Collection Snag-Free Hair Elastics ($3.50) will keep your pony or bun in place without any pulling or tugging. They’re made from a special elastic fiber that easily glides off to remove and are available in black or clear to suit all shades of hair.
